Audio Metadata Remover

Remove tags and cover art from MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG and WAV files without re-encoding, or keep only title, artist and album. Batch, no upload.

Choose one or more audio files and the tool shows the tags each one carries: title, artist, album, genre, date, track number, comments, lyrics, cover art and other hidden fields. Press Remove metadata to save clean copies without them, or choose to keep only the title, artist and album. The sound itself is copied unchanged into the same format, so there is no loss of quality and the files often get smaller when large cover images are removed.

Metadata can reveal more than you expect, such as the software and computer used, the name of the person who ripped or recorded a file, or comments and lyrics you don't want to share. Everything happens in your browser, and files are never uploaded.

How to use Audio Metadata Remover

  1. Choose or drop one or more audio files.
  2. Check the tags found in each file.
  3. Choose to remove everything, or everything except title, artist and album.
  4. Press Remove metadata and download the clean files.

Why remove audio metadata?

Voice notes, interview recordings and demos can contain the name of the recording app, the device, an encoder name or a creation date that you may not want to publish. Tracks bought or ripped years ago may carry personal comments, a username or long lyrics. Some car stereos, older players and embedded devices fail on files with very large cover images or unusual tags, and removing them fixes playback. Clean files are also handy as a fresh start before tagging a collection consistently with a music manager.

No quality loss

The tool does not decode and re-encode the sound. It reads the compressed audio data and writes it into a new file of the same format without the tag sections, so an MP3 stays the same MP3 bit for bit inside, and a FLAC stays lossless. The length, bitrate and sample rate are unchanged. File sizes usually shrink by the size of the removed cover art, which can be several hundred kilobytes per file.

Keeping the important tags

Removing all tags means music apps show the file name instead of a title and artist. If you only want to drop artwork, comments and private fields, choose to keep title, artist and album. To see every tag in detail first, or to save the cover image before removing it, use the Audio Metadata Viewer.

Metadata in other files

Audio is not the only kind of file that carries hidden information. Photos from phones and cameras contain EXIF data such as the date, the camera model and often the exact GPS location where the photo was taken; check them with the EXIF Viewer before sharing. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files store the author, company and editing history, and PDF files keep the author and the software used. Removing metadata from every file you publish is a simple habit that protects your privacy and that of the people you work with, and it takes only a few seconds per file.
