Video Cropper
Crop a video to any area — free or 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5 or 4:3 — by dragging a box or typing exact pixels. Sound is kept.
Cropping cuts away the edges of a video so only the part you want remains: remove black bars from a recording, cut out a distracting background, zoom in on a speaker, take a single window out of a screen recording, or turn a landscape clip into a square or vertical one for social media.
Open a video and a crop box appears over the preview. Drag it to move it, drag a corner to resize it, or type the exact position and size in pixels. Choose a fixed shape — 1:1 square, 16:9, 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, 4:5 for feed posts or 4:3 — and the box keeps that shape while you adjust it. Scrub through the video to check the framing at different moments, then press Crop. The sound is kept, and the video is processed in your browser, never uploaded.
How to use Video Cropper
- Choose or drop a video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV).
- Pick a shape, or leave it on Free.
- Drag the box and its corners, or type the position and size in pixels.
- Press Crop video and download the result.

- Scrub the preview to check the framing over time.
- Keyboard nudging with the arrow keys.
- Sound kept; MP4 (H.264) output.
- Runs in your browser with WebCodecs; nothing is uploaded.
Tips for a good crop
Check the framing at the start, middle and end with the slider, because people and objects move. Leave a little space in front of a face in the direction it looks, and keep the subject slightly off-centre for a natural look.
Common uses
Remove letterbox or pillarbox bars left by a previous conversion, so the picture fills the screen. Crop a screen recording down to the window or region that matters. Reframe a group shot around one person. Turn a horizontal phone video into a vertical 9:16 clip for Stories, Reels, Shorts or TikTok, or into a 1:1 square for feeds. Hide a watermark, timestamp or private detail at the edge of the frame.
Shapes for each platform
Choosing a shape locks the crop box to that aspect ratio, so the result fits the platform without black bars.
| Shape | Use |
|---|---|
| 9:16 | Reels, Stories, Shorts, TikTok |
| 1:1 | Square feed posts, profile videos |
| 4:5 | Portrait feed posts on Instagram and Facebook |
| 16:9 | YouTube, presentations, TVs |
| 4:3 | Older cameras and presentation formats |
| Free | Any rectangle you draw |
Crop or resize?
Cropping removes part of the picture and keeps the remaining pixels at their original sharpness, so a cropped area has fewer pixels than the full frame — a small region of a phone video will be lower resolution than the original. To change the overall size without removing anything, use the Video Resizer, which can also fit a video into a new shape with bars or by filling. Crop first and resize afterwards if you need a specific output size, such as 1080 × 1920.
Quality and limits
The crop is encoded as H.264 MP4 at a high quality setting suited to the new size, using your device's video encoder through WebCodecs. Width and height are rounded to even numbers, which H.264 requires, and the crop is at least 16 pixels on each side. Videos the browser cannot decode — such as some HEVC files on Windows without the HEVC extension — are explained with a message. Long or high-resolution videos take a while; you can cancel at any time. Everything happens on your device, so private recordings stay private.
