Image Converter
Convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP — from JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or HEIC — one by one or in a batch. No upload.
Change the format of any picture in a few clicks: photos from an iPhone (HEIC) to JPG, screenshots to compact WebP, WebP images saved from websites back to JPG or PNG, logos to PNG with transparency, or images to GIF and BMP for older software. The Image Converter reads JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and HEIC and saves JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP.
Convert one image or drop a whole batch and download them together as a ZIP. Choose the quality for JPG and WebP, and the background colour that replaces transparency in formats that can't store it. Photos are turned the right way up using their EXIF orientation. The conversion runs in your browser with the same high-quality encoders as our other image tools — MozJPEG, libwebp and OxiPNG — and your images are never uploaded.

Choosing a format
Each format has a job it does best. When in doubt, use JPG for photos and PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency.
| Format | Best for | Transparency | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos; sharing; printing | No | Small |
| PNG | Screenshots, logos, text, graphics | Yes | Large for photos |
| WebP | Websites: photos and graphics | Yes | Smallest of these |
| GIF | Simple graphics for old software (256 colours) | Background colour | Medium |
| BMP | Programs that need uncompressed bitmaps | No | Very large |
Quality and transparency
JPG and WebP are lossy: the quality slider trades file size against detail. 85 is a good default; 75 is fine for the web and 90–95 for printing. PNG is lossless, so it has no quality setting, and it is optimised automatically to stay as small as possible. JPG and BMP can't store transparency, so transparent areas get the background colour you choose (white by default); GIF here also uses that background. Converting never adds detail that the original didn't have — a small or heavily compressed JPG doesn't improve by saving it as PNG.
HEIC and AVIF
iPhones save photos as HEIC, and many websites now serve AVIF. Both are efficient modern formats that some programs and services still don't accept. The converter reads HEIC with libheif and AVIF with your browser's built-in decoder, and saves them as JPG or PNG that open everywhere. For AVIF images there is also a dedicated AVIF to JPG page, and for iPhone photos the HEIC to JPG tool, which can keep several photos from a single HEIC file.
Private batch conversion
Each image is checked by its content before converting, so a file that is not really an image — or a picture with dimensions so large it would freeze the browser — is refused with a clear message. Images are converted on your device using several workers in parallel, so batches finish quickly. Nothing is uploaded and no copy is kept. Use the Image Compressor if your goal is a smaller file in the same format, and the Image Resizer to change the dimensions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an image to another format?
Drop the image, choose the format and download the converted file. Several images can be converted at once.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and HEIC can be opened; JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP can be saved.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything is converted in your browser.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Yes. They are decoded with libheif and saved as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Will converting reduce quality?
PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP use the quality you choose; 85 is visually very close to the original.
Can I save as AVIF?
Not yet — AVIF can be opened and converted to other formats.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
PNG and WebP keep them. JPG, GIF and BMP fill them with the background colour you choose.
