Audio Trimmer
Trim MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC audio to a start and end time with fade in and fade out — for ringtones, clips and intros. No upload.
Keep just the part of a song, recording or podcast you want: the chorus for a ringtone, a quote from an interview, an intro for a video, or a voice memo without the silence at the start. Open an audio file, play it and set Start and End, add a gentle fade in or fade out if you like, and save the result as MP3, M4A (AAC), OGG (Opus) or WAV.
The Audio Trimmer opens MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC files, and also takes the sound from MP4, MOV and WebM videos. It suggests the same format as your file so nothing changes unexpectedly, and lets you choose the quality for compressed formats. Everything happens in your browser; your audio is never uploaded.
How to use Audio Trimmer
- Choose or drop an audio file (or a video).
- Play it and set Start and End — type a time or use the current position.
- Optionally choose a fade in and fade out.
- Choose the format and quality, press Trim audio and download.
Features
- Trims MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC files, and the sound of videos.
- Start and End to a tenth of a second, from the player or typed.
- Fade in and fade out from 0.5 to 5 seconds.
- Saves as MP3, M4A (AAC), OGG (Opus) or WAV.
- Quality choice for compressed formats.
- Runs in your browser: no upload, no account, no watermark.
Making a ringtone
Ringtones are short: around 30 seconds is plenty, and iPhones accept up to 40 seconds. Find the part you want, set Start a moment before it, add a 0.5 or 1 second fade in and a 2 second fade out so it doesn't start or stop abruptly, and save.
| Phone | Format to choose | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Android | MP3 | Copy to the Ringtones folder or pick the file in Settings → Sound |
| iPhone | M4A (AAC) | Rename the file to .m4r and add it with Finder, iTunes or GarageBand |
| Notification sound | MP3 or OGG | Keep it under 5 seconds |
Which format and quality?
MP3 plays everywhere; 192 kbps is the usual choice for music and 128 kbps is plenty for speech. M4A (AAC) sounds better than MP3 at the same bitrate and is the native format on Apple devices. OGG with Opus is the most efficient — 96 kbps sounds excellent — and plays in browsers and on Android. WAV is uncompressed, perfect for further editing, but about ten times larger. When your file is already compressed, saving it in the same format at a high bitrate keeps the quality loss inaudible.
Fades
A fade in raises the volume smoothly from silence at the start; a fade out lowers it to silence at the end. They make a clip sound finished instead of cut off mid-note. The fades use an equal-power curve, which sounds natural for music and speech. Short fades (0.5 to 1 second) suit speech and ringtones; longer fades (3 to 5 seconds) suit music endings. Fades never change the length of the clip.
Private and precise
The audio is decoded by your browser's built-in media engine and the trimmed part is cut to the exact sample, then encoded on your device — MP3 with the open-source LAME encoder. Nothing is uploaded and the original file is left untouched. Each file is checked by its content, so a document renamed to .mp3 is refused with a clear message. To remove a part from the middle instead, use the Audio Cutter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I trim an MP3?
Open the MP3, set Start and End, keep MP3 as the format and press Trim audio.
How do I make a ringtone?
Trim about 30 seconds, add short fades, and save as MP3 for Android or M4A for iPhone (rename it to .m4r).
Does trimming reduce quality?
The audio is re-encoded once. At 192 kbps or more, or as WAV, the difference is inaudible.
Can I trim the sound of a video?
Yes. Open the video and the trimmer works on its sound; the result is an audio file.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
Which formats can I open?
MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC, plus MP4, MOV and WebM videos.
How do I remove a part from the middle?
Use the Audio Cutter, which removes a section and joins the rest.
