GST Calculator
Add GST to a price or remove it from a GST-inclusive amount, with the CGST + SGST or IGST split. Edit the rate buttons; works for VAT too.
Find the GST on any amount in seconds. Choose Add tax to go from a price before GST to the total including GST, or Remove tax to find the price before GST and the GST amount inside an inclusive total, as printed on most bills. Pick a rate with one tap and the calculator also shows how the GST splits into CGST and SGST for a sale within a state, or IGST for a sale between states.
GST rates change from time to time, so the rate buttons are yours to edit: add a rate, rename a button, delete one or reset to the defaults. Your rates are saved only in your browser. Switch the tax name to VAT or Sales tax to use the same calculator anywhere in the world.
How to use GST Calculator

- Enter the amount and tap a rate button, or type any rate.
- Choose within a state (CGST + SGST) or between states (IGST).
- Read the GST amount, both totals and the split; edit the rate buttons if you need other rates.

- Shows the working, so you can check every step.
- Shareable link with your numbers.
How to add GST
Multiply the price before tax by the GST rate and divide by 100 to get the GST, then add it to the price. For 1,000 at 18%: GST = 1,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = 180, and the total is 1,180. Within a state this 180 is split equally into 90 CGST and 90 SGST; between states it is all charged as 180 IGST.
How to remove GST (reverse calculation)
When a price already includes GST, divide it by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. For 1,180 including 18% GST: 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = 1,000 before tax, and the GST is 180. A common mistake is to take 18% of the inclusive price instead, which gives 212.40 and overstates the tax. For an inclusive price of 1,000 at 18%, the price before GST is 847.46 and the GST is 152.54.
| Rate | Add GST to 1,000 | GST inside 1,000 (inclusive) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.25% | 1,002.50 (GST 2.50) | 2.49 |
| 3% | 1,030 (GST 30) | 29.13 |
| 5% | 1,050 (GST 50) | 47.62 |
| 18% | 1,180 (GST 180) | 152.54 |
| 40% | 1,400 (GST 400) | 285.71 |
CGST, SGST and IGST
India's GST has three parts. For a sale within one state, the GST is charged half as Central GST (CGST) and half as State GST (SGST), or Union Territory GST (UTGST) in a union territory without a legislature. For a sale from one state to another, or an import, the whole amount is charged as Integrated GST (IGST). The total tax is the same either way; only who collects it changes. An 18% sale within Maharashtra shows 9% CGST and 9% SGST on the invoice; the same sale to Karnataka shows 18% IGST.
Current GST rates and editing the buttons
Since the GST reform of 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall into two main rates, 5% and 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods; special rates of 3% for gold and silver and 0.25% for rough diamonds also apply, and many essentials are exempt. These are the default buttons. Rates do change, so check the official CBIC rate notifications for your product, and use Edit rates to add or rename buttons for the rates you use. Changes are saved only in your browser and you can reset them at any time.
Using it for VAT or sales tax
The arithmetic for VAT and sales tax is the same as for GST. Choose VAT or Sales tax at the top, enter your rate (for example 20% UK VAT, 19% German VAT or 10% Australian GST) and choose your currency. The CGST and SGST split is hidden for these, because it only applies to India's GST.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 18% GST?
Multiply the amount by 0.18 for the GST, or by 1.18 for the total. For 2,500 the GST is 450 and the total is 2,950.
How do I remove GST from a total?
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. For an 18% GST-inclusive amount of 1,180, divide by 1.18 to get 1,000; the GST is 180.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
CGST and SGST are charged half each on sales within a state; IGST is charged on sales between states. The total GST is the same.
Can I change the rate buttons?
Yes. Click Edit rates to add, rename or delete buttons, or reset to the defaults. Your buttons are stored only in this browser.
Why do CGST and SGST differ by one paisa sometimes?
When the GST has an odd number of paise it cannot be split exactly in half, so one part is rounded up and the other down to keep the total correct.
Can I use it as a VAT calculator?
Yes. Choose VAT or Sales tax, enter the rate and pick your currency.
Is this tax advice?
No. It is a calculator. Check the applicable rate and invoice rules with the GST portal, CBIC notifications or a tax professional.
