Image Effects
Blur, pixelate, make black and white, sepia or invert a photo, the whole picture or just an area such as a face or number plate. No upload.
Open a photo, choose an effect and download the result. Blur and pixelate hide details, black and white and sepia give a classic look, and invert turns the picture into a negative. Apply the effect to the whole image, or drag a box over just one part, such as a face, a car number plate, an address or a password on a screenshot.
A strength slider controls how strong the effect is, and the preview updates as you move it. Choose several images to apply the same effect to all of them and download a ZIP. The pictures are processed on your device and never uploaded, which matters when the reason you are blurring something is privacy.
How to use Image Effects
- Choose or drop one or more images.
- Pick an effect: blur, pixelate, black and white, sepia or invert.
- Set the strength and choose the whole image or a selected area; drag on the picture to select.
- Download the image, or all images as a ZIP.

Hiding private details
Before you share a screenshot or a photo online, check it for things that should stay private: faces of people who did not agree to be posted, car number plates, house numbers, names and addresses on letters, bank details, QR codes and passwords. Choose Selected area, drag a box over the detail, then pick Blur or Pixelate and raise the strength until it cannot be read.
For text and numbers, pixelate with a large block size or a strong blur is safest. A light blur can sometimes be partly reversed, so use enough strength that the detail is gone, not just soft. The effect is written into the pixels of the saved file, so the original detail is not hidden underneath.
The effects explained
Each effect changes the colour of the pixels in a different way.
| Effect | What it does | Strength controls |
|---|---|---|
| Blur | Mixes each pixel with its neighbours, a smooth Gaussian-like blur | Blur radius, up to 4% of the long side |
| Pixelate | Replaces squares with their average colour, a mosaic | Block size, up to 6% of the long side |
| Black and white | Brightness only, using 0.299 R + 0.587 G + 0.114 B | How much colour is removed |
| Sepia | Warm brown tone of old photographs | How strong the tone is |
| Invert | Each colour becomes 255 minus its value, a negative | Mix with the original |
Formats and quality
JPG photos are saved as JPG at high quality, PNG stays PNG with its transparency, and WebP stays WebP. GIF, BMP and AVIF files are saved as PNG. Phone photos are turned upright from their orientation data before the effect is applied, so the result matches what you see. The full resolution of the original is kept.
Creative uses
Black and white suits portraits and street photos, sepia gives an old-fashioned look for invitations and family albums, and a gentle blur makes a picture into a soft background for text on a slide or a social media post. Pixelate a whole picture with a large block for a retro game look, or invert it to see a film negative as a positive.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur just a face or a number plate?
Choose Selected area, drag a box over the face or plate on the preview, pick Blur or Pixelate and raise the strength until it cannot be recognised.
Is blur or pixelate safer for hiding text?
Both work when strong enough. Use a large block size or high blur so the text is completely unreadable, not just soft.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The effects are applied in your browser and the images never leave your device.
Can I apply the effect to many images?
Yes. Choose several images; the same effect and area are applied to each and you can download them as a ZIP.
Does it reduce the image quality?
No. The full resolution is kept. JPG is saved at high quality; PNG and WebP keep their format.
Can the effect be undone from the saved file?
No. The effect is written into the pixels; keep your original if you may need it again.
