BMP to JPG Converter
Convert large BMP images to compact JPG files — in your browser, no upload.
BMP files from old scanners, Windows Paint and some cameras are usually stored without compression, so they are very large. Drop them here, keep JPG as the output and download files that are far smaller and open in every app.
Choose the JPG quality, convert one image or a batch, and download everything as a ZIP. The conversion runs in your browser; your images are never uploaded.
How to use BMP to JPG Converter
- Drop your BMP files or choose them.
- Keep JPG selected under Convert to.
- Adjust the quality if needed.
- Download the JPG files or the ZIP.
Why convert BMP to JPG
A bitmap stores every pixel with no compression, so a single photo can be many megabytes. JPG compresses photos very efficiently, which makes them practical for email, websites and phone storage.
Upload forms and online services often reject BMP files or limit file size. A JPG copy solves both problems.
BMP files may also contain transparency in rare cases. JPG has no transparent pixels, so any transparent area is filled with the background colour you choose in the options, white by default. Choose PNG instead if you need to keep transparent parts.
BMP and JPG compared
How the two formats differ.
| Feature | BMP | JPG |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Usually none | Lossy |
| Typical file size | Very large | Small |
| Supported by websites and forms | Rarely | Almost always |
| Best for | Raw pixel data | Photos and sharing |
Graphics and text
For screenshots, diagrams and images with sharp text, PNG is often a better target than JPG because it keeps edges crisp and is still much smaller than BMP. Choose PNG in the Convert to options for those images.
Keep the BMP originals if you need the exact pixels later.
Old scans and Paint images
Old scanners and Windows Paint often saved images as BMP by default, so photo archives and school projects can contain many of them. Converting the whole folder to JPG at once frees a lot of disk space while keeping the pictures easy to view and share.
Drop all the files together and download a single ZIP of the JPG copies.
Frequently asked questions
Why are BMP files so big?
BMP usually stores every pixel without compression.
Will the JPG look the same?
At the default quality the difference is very hard to see in photos. For sharp text and diagrams, choose PNG instead.
Are my files uploaded?
No. They are converted in your browser.
Can I convert several BMP files?
Yes. Drop them all and download a ZIP.
Can I convert a folder of BMP files at once?
Yes. Select or drop all the files and download them together as a ZIP.
Can I make the JPG even smaller?
Lower the quality slider, or use the image compressor afterwards.
