Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter
Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius instantly, with the formula and a °F to °C chart.
Enter a temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and see it in Celsius immediately, with Kelvin listed too. Decimals and negative values both work.
American recipes, weather forecasts, thermostats and fever thermometers often show Fahrenheit. If you cook, travel or read news from the United States, this page turns those numbers into the Celsius you are used to.
How to use Fahrenheit to Celsius Converter
- Enter the temperature in °F (for example 100).
- Read the temperature in °C as you type.
- Check Kelvin in the list of all units if needed.
- Swap the direction to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit.
How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius
Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature, then multiply by 5/9 (or divide by 1.8). For example, 100 °F minus 32 is 68, and 68 divided by 1.8 is about 37.78 °C.
A quick estimate is to subtract 30 and halve the result: 100 °F gives about 35 °C. It is fine for weather, but use the converter for cooking and medical readings.
The converter accepts decimals and negative numbers, so readings such as 98.6 or -4 work exactly as typed. Kelvin is listed under the result for scientific use; it is the Celsius value plus 273.15, so the coldest possible temperature, absolute zero, is 0 K.

Oven temperatures
American recipes give oven temperatures in Fahrenheit. 350 °F is about 176.67 °C, usually set as 175 or 180 °C; 400 °F is about 204.44 °C; and 450 °F is about 232.22 °C for very hot roasting.
Fan ovens usually need about 20 °C less than the recipe says, so check your oven manual before converting a baking time.
Weather in Fahrenheit
A summer day of 90 °F is about 32.22 °C, a mild spring day of 60 °F is about 15.56 °C, and freezing weather at 20 °F is about -6.67 °C. When an American forecast feels hard to read, type the number here and the Celsius value appears straight away.
