KM/H to MPH Converter
Convert kilometres per hour to miles per hour instantly, with the exact factor and a chart.
Type a speed in kilometres per hour and read it in miles per hour as you type. Metres per second, knots and feet per second are listed too.
Speed limits and car speedometers use km/h in most countries, while the United States and the United Kingdom use mph on road signs. Runners and cyclists also switch between the two when comparing training apps.
How to use KM/H to MPH Converter
- Enter the speed in km/h (for example 100).
- Read the speed in mph immediately.
- See m/s and knots in the full list.
- Swap to convert mph to km/h.
How to convert km/h to mph
A mile is exactly 1.609344 kilometres, so divide kilometres per hour by 1.609344 to get miles per hour. For example, 100 km/h is about 62.14 mph and 50 km/h is about 31.07 mph.
For a quick estimate, multiply by 0.6: 100 km/h is roughly 60 mph. The converter uses the exact definition.
The same factor works in reverse: multiply miles per hour by 1.609344 to get kilometres per hour. Because the definition of the mile is exact, every result in the chart is precise to the decimals shown, and the converter itself keeps up to ten significant digits.

Speed limits and sport
Typical urban limits of 50 km/h equal about 31.07 mph, and motorway limits of 120 km/h equal about 74.56 mph. A fast cyclist at 30 km/h is riding at about 18.64 mph.
In science, speeds are often given in metres per second; 100 km/h is about 27.78 m/s, which the converter lists alongside mph.
Running and cycling paces
Fitness apps show speed in km/h or mph, and pace in minutes per kilometre or per mile. A running speed of 12 km/h is about 7.46 mph, which is a pace of 5 minutes per kilometre. Converting speed first makes it easier to compare a training plan written in the other system.
Knots are used at sea and in aviation; one knot is exactly 1.852 km/h, and the converter lists knots for every speed.
