M4A to WAV Converter
Convert M4A to WAV in your browser, including iPhone voice memos: uncompressed 16-bit WAV at the original or a chosen sample rate. No upload.
M4A is the audio format of iPhone voice memos, of many phone recordings and of songs from Apple devices. It sounds good and stays small, but not every program reads it. Open your M4A file here, choose the sample rate and channels, and download it as a WAV file that every editor and service accepts.
The conversion runs in your browser, so a private voice memo, a lesson recording or an interview never leaves your device. AAC files, the sound format inside M4A, are converted the same way.
How to use M4A to WAV Converter
- Choose or drop your M4A file, for example a voice memo saved from your iPhone.
- Keep the original sample rate, or choose 16 kHz for speech or 44.1 kHz for music.
- Choose mono for voice recordings, or keep stereo for music.
- Press Convert to WAV and download the file.
Voice memos as WAV
Voice memos are the quickest way to record a meeting, a lecture, an idea or an interview, but many transcription services, speech-to-text tools and older audio editors do not accept M4A. Converted to WAV, the recording opens everywhere. For speech, choose 16 kHz and mono: transcription and speech recognition services recommend these settings, and the file stays reasonably small, about 1.9 MB per minute. To get a memo from your iPhone to a computer, share it to Files, AirDrop it, or email it to yourself, then open it here.
Music and other M4A files
M4A also holds music, as AAC audio. To use such a track in a DJ program, a sampler or a CD project, convert it at 44.1 kHz in stereo, the CD standard, or keep its original rate for editing. The WAV sounds exactly like the M4A, because it stores the decoded sound without compression; it is simply larger, about 10.6 MB per minute at 44.1 kHz stereo. Songs bought with copy protection cannot be converted, but ordinary M4A files and recordings can.
Why an M4A file may not open elsewhere
M4A is a container made for Apple devices, and programs on Windows, older Android phones, many web forms and some professional tools either do not read it or show only an error. WAV is the format nearly everything understands, so converting is usually the quickest fix when a recording will not play or upload.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert M4A to WAV?
Open the M4A file, choose the sample rate and channels, press Convert to WAV, and download the WAV.
Can I convert iPhone voice memos to WAV?
Yes. Save or share the memo as a file, open it here, and choose 16 kHz mono for transcription or keep the original settings.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
Can I convert AAC files to WAV too?
Yes. AAC is the sound format inside M4A, and both are converted the same way.
Does converting M4A to WAV improve the quality?
No. The WAV sounds the same as the M4A; it is uncompressed, so it opens in every program and can be edited without further loss.
