WebP to PNG Converter
Convert WebP images to lossless PNG with transparency kept — in your browser, no upload.
Drop WebP images, keep PNG as the output and download lossless PNG files with any transparent background preserved. Convert a single image or a batch with a ZIP download.
PNG is the best choice when you want to edit an image further, use it in design software or keep sharp edges on logos and icons. The conversion happens on your device, so your images stay private.
How to use WebP to PNG Converter
- Drop your WebP files or choose them.
- Keep PNG selected under Convert to.
- Convert and check the preview.
- Download the PNG files or the ZIP.
Why convert WebP to PNG
Many design and office programs handle PNG better than WebP. PNG is lossless, so no further detail is lost when you edit and save the image again, and it keeps transparency for logos and cut-outs.
The PNG is often larger than the WebP: lossless compression keeps every pixel. Use the WebP for publishing and the PNG for editing.
Because PNG never discards detail, it is also a safe format for archiving images you may want to edit later. Screenshots, diagrams, logos and illustrations with flat colours or sharp text look best as PNG, while photos are usually better kept as JPG or WebP for size.
WebP and PNG compared
How the two formats differ.
| Feature | WebP | PNG |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossy or lossless | Lossless |
| Transparency | Yes | Yes |
| Re-saving loses detail | Lossy WebP: yes | No |
| Best for | Websites | Editing, logos, screenshots |
Animated WebP
PNG holds a single image, so an animated WebP is converted using its first frame; the other frames are left out.
If you only need a smaller file for the web, keep the WebP or use the image compressor rather than converting.
Editing after conversion
After converting, open the PNG in any editor to crop, annotate or remove the background, and save again without losing quality. When the image is ready for the web, convert it back to WebP or compress it to keep pages fast.
The background remover on this site also works on PNG files and keeps the transparent result, so a product photo can be cut out and placed on any background. Save intermediate steps as PNG and convert to a compressed format only at the end, when the image is finished.
Frequently asked questions
Does PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas of the WebP stay transparent in the PNG.
Why is the PNG larger?
PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly, which takes more space than WebP.
Are the images uploaded?
No. They are converted in your browser.
Can I convert several files?
Yes. Drop them all and download a ZIP.
Can I convert the PNG back to WebP later?
Yes. Choose WebP as the output format in this converter.
What about animated WebP?
PNG holds one picture, so the first frame is used and the other frames are left out.
